Amy J Van Ooyen is also quite a writer.
A born story teller she does more than just give you a glimpse of her life in the woods near Lake Superior, but includes tails of those her life touches. Winner of the "U.P. Writer of the Year" award. She's written for many magazines, outdoor and nature publications and published a number of her own books.
Incredibly she never spoke a word of English until emigrating from Holland, at the age of 29, shortly after World War II. She's the mother of eleven children, the last four of whom were adopted, and drove a school bus for fifteen years to help put her children through college.
